Do Anything Exciting for YOUR Birthday!?! (Posted 3/3/10)

That may be an ordinary question to ask classmate friends, but it sure didn’t yield a routine answer from Bob Komara. Bob and his wife Patti will certainly remember celebrating his 63rd birthday in 2010. In February, they sailed on a 12-day Mediterranean Cruise, visiting the countries of Spain, Italy, Turkey, Greece, Egypt and Malta.
The Cruise was especially meaningful because their son, Joe, formerly an entertainer in New York , is currently performing with the Norwegian Cruise Line and the family was able to see his performance and share some special time together. Daughter Kelly was not able to vacation with them as she is busy coaching basketball at Auburn University in Alabama.
One memorable stop for the Komaras was in Cairo where they took a camel ride. Be sure to check out our Photo Album Section for pictures. Bob tells us, “As you can see my camel is not as good looking as a Kentucky racehorse. I do believe I sit taller in the saddle than both John Wayne or John Gerbas.”
Bob retired from teaching five years ago, but is still coaching football and will be starting his second year at Andrean H.S. in Merrillville, IN this fall. Bob noted this will be his 50th year in football as a player or coach. And, he adds, the first home game of this next season, will be against BNI!
Happy Birthday and Happy Retirement travels, Bob! He may be reached at rwkomara@comcast.net.
