Rosemary Leonard—RN

As a dedicated maternity nurse Rosemary has welcomed hundreds of new babies into the world while also supporting mothers through their labors. In addition, she supports the needs of her family.
From the NWITimes special Nurse's Day feature May 06, 2014 1:05 pm Rosemary has spent 48 years of her working life in a hospital nursery; 8 years at St. Catherine Hospital in East Chicago and 40 years at St. Anthony Hospital in Crown Point. She set up the nursery at St. Anthony 2 weeks before the hospital opened in 1974 and has been an anchor on the staff there ever since. In addition to her work at the hospital caring for infants and their mothers, at home Rosie cares for her 90-year-old parents, her mother with Alzheimer's and her father with a pacemaker. She plans meals and cooks for them, keeps the laundry done and the house clean, manages medications and doctor's appointments, and provides physical assistance with personal care. She grows and cans or freezes fresh produce every summer, and bakes for every event in her family or at work or church. When she takes time off she always uses it to travel to a family member's house to help them remodel a room or welcome a new baby into their home. She has dedicated her life to helping others. – William Leonard
